market: sports & entertainment
size: 7,000 sf plaza, 54' tall legacy ship
scope: Sculptural monument, digital video board and Vikings historical timeline exhibit.
When Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment and the Minnesota Vikings asked for a sign with a video board to anchor the entry plaza of US Bank Stadium, the solution was a monument designed to create fan memories for years to come. As part of RipBang Studios, Bob Bangham and Rowena Macaraeg designed a curved 2,000 sf high definition video screen that serves as the sail of a 140 ft long contemporary sculptural interpretation of a Viking Ship.
Each building partner is represented with a custom Viking Shield exhibit panel, while the adjacent plaza is paved with 12,000 engraved granite bricks that recognize both fans and local businesses. The stainless steel ship sits on a black granite fountain base and features a 13 foot tall interactive dragon figurehead. In a city known for its public sculptures, we are humbled that the Viking Legacy Ship is among its most photographed and is prominently featured in pre and post game television coverage.
